What are the Archives?

Our goal is to create a comprehensive and dynamic record of women’s rowing, that is freely accessible in a permanent home. Securing and sharing the history will help to ensure the future of our sport.

Archives will be available online by the end of 2026.

Timeline

The Archives will include timeline of the major events, players, competitions, and achievements of women rowers from 1850 to the present

Bibliography

The Archives will include annotated bibliography of major books, magazine articles and research publications written about women’s rowing in the US

Oral Histories

The Archives will include oral histories of key individuals involved in the US women’s rowing community (video files and transcriptions)

Images

The Archives will include digital archive of public domain films, footage, and photographs specific to women’s rowing

The H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports at the University of Texas, Austin is our partner in providing research, project management, and a permanent home with perpetual public access.

Honoring the Past
Inspiring the Future

Joan Lind Van Blom racing her way to the first Olympic medal for US women.  Joan won a Silver Medal in the single sculls in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal – first Olympic Games where women competed in Rowing.
